Three dimensional dental imaging technology has allowed dentists to provide state-of-the-art services to their patients. In our effort to provide the latest technology in dentistry to our patients, Harbor Point Dental Group proudly utilizes cone beam 3D dental imaging.
What is Cone Beam 3D Imaging?
Cone Beam 3D Imaging is a diagnostic imaging technology that uses radiation in a manner similar to x-rays, otherwise known as conventional radiographic imaging. The difference between traditional x-ray imaging and cone beam 3D imaging, is that cone beam images are converted into a three-dimensional view that can then be manipulated by sophisticated dental computer software. Cone beam imaging evolved from the development of CAT Scan imaging in medicine. CAT Scans, or Computerized Axial Tomography, utilize a fan-shaped beam of radiation that rotates around the patient hundreds of times per second, with the patient being moved a precise distance in the scanner. Cone beam differs in that cone beam scans use a cone-shaped beam that is directed at a detector that rotates around the patient. Unlike CAT scans, cone beam 3D imaging can be applied to dental practices.
Third Dimension Benefits
The most vital benefit of utilizing cone beam 3D imaging at Harbor Point Dental Group is that it delivers the power of repeatability. 3D imaging provides fast and accurate imaging that’s consistent, making it a reliable tool for our dentists. With this ability to view all angles of a patients mouth, dentists gain a better view of bone structures. A better view of our jaw anatomy can aid in viewing adjacent root positions, in order to locate canals and root fractures. Utilizing 3D imaging also increases the possibility of treatment success, granting practitioners greater predictability and confidence in preparing for procedures such as extractions and placing implants.
3D imaging has changed the way dentists diagnose and plan treatments for their patients. Harbor Point Dental Group will always continue to utilize the latest in dental technology to provide our patients with only the best in oral health care.
