Harbor Point Stamford Dental Group Places Dental Implants
Missing teeth are always a nuisance, and make many people feel self conscious about their smile. Implants are a great option for patients who are looking for a permanent solution to missing teeth. Harbor Point Dental Group provides options such as Dental Implants to restore your smile to it’s luster and brilliance.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants normally consist of three parts. These three parts are the implant screw, the abutment, and the crown. The procedure of inserting an implant is performed by our skilled Oral Surgeon here at Harbor Point Dental Group.
What is the Dental Implant Procedure?
Our oral surgeon here at Harbor Point Dental Group will lay out a treatment plan that is catered specifically to your needs. The titanium implant screw is first inserted into the jawbone socket of the missing tooth. The jawbone will heal around the implant post. This healing process will take anywhere between six to twelve weeks to be fully healed. After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the abutment is then is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. The abutment acts as the connecter for the crown, which is the final part of the implant.
What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth, and because they are designed to fuse with your jawbone, they become permanent. With implants you never have to worry about poor fitting dentures which can cause your speech to be slurred, and become uncomfortable. Implants are also better for chewing, and allow your to eat with confidence, and not worry about the pain and discomfort that can come with eating with dentures. Dental implants are ideally much better for your overall oral health. Implants don’t require reducing other teeth around the empty socket, as a tooth-supported bridge does. Because the nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving long-term oral health. Individual implants also allow easier access to floss between teeth.
Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Anyone that is healthy enough to undergo a dental extraction is able to go through the procedure of getting an implant. A patient’s gums should also be healthy, and have enough bone in their jaw to be able to hold the implant.
