Happy Holidays! The holidays can be a busy time of year for you and your family but we have some tips to help make the season healthy and bright.
Best Practices: Tips for Choosing a Toothbrush
Sparkling Smile – Tips for Holiday Eating – Protect Your Teeth
*It’s ok to Treat yourself to small amounts of sugary foods this holiday if you consume it in conjunction with meals. Saliva production increases during meals and helps neutralize acid production and rinse food particles from the mouth.
* Limit between-meals snacks. If you crave a snack, choose nutritious foods and consider chewing sugarless gum afterward. Sugarless gum increases saliva flow and helps wash out food and decay-producing acid.
* Avoid chewing on hard candy, ice cubes or chewy treats. Yes, that means limit the number of candy canes you eat. Your teeth will thank you!
* Even though the egg nog tastes great, remember to drink lots of water too. Consuming optimally fluoridated water can help prevent tooth decay. If you choose bottled water, check the label for the fluoride content.
* Brush your teeth twice daily and floss daily with ADA-accepted dental products.
* Don’t crack nuts with your teeth. Also, remember to use proper tools to open packages and bottles.
* Don’t let the stress of the holiday family dinner drive you crazy. Say no to nail biting.
* If you are planning to visit family and friends this season, carry an oral hygiene travel kit with you and use it often.
* See your dentist regularly.
